Hopkins & Allen Arms Company "Beebe Arms Company" 16 Gauge Double Barrel Shotgun
Item #: WR696
This is a Hopkins & Allen Arms Company side by side 16 gauge shotgun manufactured in Norwich, Connecticut. Hopkins & Allen made guns from 1868 to 1916, and manufactured trade name shotguns from from 1898 to 1915. They stamped the lock plates with the BEEBE ARMS COMPANY logo on guns they made for other companies who did not request their own trade name. The shotgun has an overall length of 46", with barrel lengths of 30". The barrels are brown and have a simulated Damascus steel look to them. The receiver, trigger guard and all other hard parts have a matching steel gray patina. The exterior of the barrels have a smooth surface with no pitting at all. There are no stamps on the barrels or the rib. The bores are very bright and have no rust or pitting present. A small brass bead sight is located 1/8" behind the muzzles on the barrel rib. Stamped on the right side near the barrel lug is the serial number 21763. That serial number is also stamped on the watermark, and inside the forehand. Also stamped on the water mark are the numbers 4 and 16. The serial number places this one in a production year circa 1900. The receiver also has a very smooth appearance with the name BEEBE ARMS COMPANY stamped into the left side. The mechanics of this old hammer gun work just fine. The stock is in good condition, showing a few scratches and gouges from normal handling. The checkering in the wrist area and the forehand are still very crisp. The butt plate is made of hard rubber, is checkered and has a squirrel within a circle. This is a good example of an early 1900's hammer gun that was produced at the Hopkins & Allen Arms Company in Norwich, Connecticut for the "Trade Name" gun business!
