Model 1851 Colt Navy
Item #: WR743
This is a Model 1851 Colt Navy cap and ball revolver. The serial number 88059 puts this one in the production year of 1858. The 7 1/2" barrel has a clean bore with no pitting or rust and good rifling. The single line ADDRESS COL. SAMl COLT HARTFORD CT. address is clearly visible. The Colt patent mark is worn, but Colt and PATENT still visible. The cylinder scene is pretty faint as well, with just traces of the naval engagement scene still visible. The serial numbers are very crisp and match, with the exception of the wedge. It is stamped with the partial serial number 7334. The gun has an overall plum patina. The mechanics of this old Colt work perfectly. All of the original silver wash has worn off the trigger guard and back strap. The exposed brass has taken on a medium golden patina that is very eye pleasing. The walnut grips have the majority of the original varnish remaining, with a couple of small bumps and dings on the sides of the grips. They fit the gun like a glove, are not cartouched and there is a small tombstone shaped repair on the left side of the grip. Many of these Colt Navy revolvers with the Hartford barrel address were shipped to southern retailors before the war. This is a beautiful gun that could have fought with some Confederate soldier during the war of northern aggression. Regardless of which side it resided with, this one will make a great addition to your Civil War weapons collection, or your Colt revolver collection.
