This is a Model 1860 Colt Army cap and ball revolver. The serial number 125713 puts this one in the production year of 1863. The 8" barrel has very good rifling and a clean bore. The single line ADDRESS COL. SAMl COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA address is worn but still visible. The Colt patent mark is still visible as well. The cylinder scene is all but gone, but you can still read the "PAT SEPT 10th 1855" below the serial number on the cylinder. The sub inspectors stamp of C is found on the barrel, the cylinder has a C and D stamp, along with the letter H stamped on the back strap and the letter E on the trigger guard. The serial numbers are legible and match, with the exception of the replacement wedge. The gun has a mixed steel gray and brown patina. The mechanics of this old Colt work perfectly. The walnut grips have lost all of the original varnish, but the walnut has a nice aged look to it. The usual small bumps and dings can be seen on the sides of the grips. They fit the gun like a glove, and have no repairs. This is a solid gun that has some great eye appeal. It's obvious that this one probably rode with the wrong side, but it will still make a great addition to your Civil War weapons collection, or your Colt revolver collection.
