WWII USN Officer's Complete Cap

This is a US Navy officer's "complete/combination" cap used during World War II. The naval service caps of the WWII era were referred to as complete or combination caps. This combination cap was a very versatile design that allowed a number of different covers, bands and chin straps to be attached to a common frame. Officers, as well as enlisted men, wore the same type frame, but used different covers, bands, chinstraps and insignia to represent their rank. This complete cap is in fair condition, showing staining and discoloration on the top of the cover. It has the white cotton poplin cover, gold gilt buttons and officer's cap device. It is missing the 1/2" wide gold chin strap. The button on the right hand side of the cap is an Army button instead of a Navy one. The black leather visor, green on the underside, is indicative of a Lieutenant Commander or lower officer rank. The leather is in very good condition. The makers label is sewn onto the sweat protector and covered with clear plastic. This is a decent example of a well used officer's complete cap that was worn during World War II, and will compliment any WWII US Navy collection.
