This is an Alabama Corps of Cadets button from the American Civil War. It is in great condition considering it was excavated. This brass coat size button was recovered in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The area the button was found is near the site of the Battle of Tuscaloosa. The battle took place on 3-4 April, 1865 and was considered a Union victory. Approximately 1500 Union soldiers under the overall command of Brigadier General John T. Croxton were engaged with 300 cadets from the University of Alabama under the command of commandant Colonel James T. Murfee during the two day battle. The button has a beautiful chocolate patina, and is made of brass. There is a slight push to the face of this button. The letters ACC in old English script are in the center of the button, surrounded by a laurel wreath. The shank is still present, but is bent to one side. The button is back marked SCOVILL MFG CO WATERBURY. This is a very rare button that will really go great with any excavated or button collection.
