WWII US Airborne Wrist Compass
Item #: WR821

This is a wrist compass used by US Airborne troops during World War II. They were used with canvas and leather wrist bands, this one uses the canvas wrist band. These wrist compasses were manufactured by two companies during the war, Taylor and the Superior Magneto Corporation. This one is a Superior Magneto product and does not have a production date stamped on the side. The compass remains functional and is in very good condition. The outer bezel is marked 360 degrees in 5 degree increments, along with the cardinal points of the compass, East, West, North and South. The needle shows the luminous paint, but it no longer glows at night. An arrow is engraved on the plexiglass and filled with white paint, but very little paint remains. The back of the compass is clearly marked "CORPS OF ENGINEERS/U.S. ARMY/MANUFACTURED BY/SUPERIOR MAGNETO CORP/L.I. CITY N.Y./U.S.A." D Day photos of US airborne troops wearing these on their wrists, ankles and hanging off their web gear. This would make a great addition to any US WWII airborne collection.
