WWI US Model 1910 Meat Can Pouch
Item #: WR843
This is a US Model 1910 meat can pouch used during World War I. These were used to carry what came to be known as the mess kit. On the inside of the pouch are three sleeves used to store one knife, fork and spoon each. The only other component was the "meat can" itself. These were attached to the top of the haversack by means of two canvas straps sewn onto the haversack. The Model 1910 meat can pouch uses a single metal button to secure it closed. This one is maker marked and unit marked. I can make out LONG, but not the year and possibly an inspectors stamp on the inside of the top flap. The unit marking reads 2 AAP/Crossed Cannons/F/105. The 2 AAP represents the 2nd Army Artillery Park, and was organized Oct, 1918 at Camp MacArthur, California. The unit did not ship overseas, and was demobilized December, 1918 while still at Camp MacArthur. This meat can pouch is in very good condition, and will go well with your other WWI Model 1910 field gear.
