This is a private purchase US Model 1918 tunic worn by the US Army during World War I. This 1918 tunic was made in Indianapolis, Indiana, as shown by the clothing label of the KAHN TAILORING CO sewn on the right side of the lining. It features the four pocket design with epaulets. The five button coat has the Great Seal US eagle buttons made of bakelite, with six smaller buttons of the same type for the pockets and epaulets. The only back mark any of the buttons have are two five point stars, one with an arrow extending from it towards the center of the button. The coat is fully lined and has one inner pocket. There are no stamped or hand written names anywhere inside the tunic. The left sleeve has a beautiful 82nd Division patch made of velvet sewn on. There is no red discharge stripe sewn on below the 82nd patch. Above the left sleeve trim is two gold chevrons of bullion, indicating one year of overseas service. The left side of the collar has the U.S. and crossed cannons of an Artillery officer. The right collar is identical to the left side in appearance. There are no ribbons or any other devices displayed anywhere on the uniform. Each epaulette has a "coffin top" 2nd Lieutenant's bar pinned to it. There is very minimal insect damage showing on the tunic, just a spot here and there. This is a nice example of a private purchase US Model 1918 uniform worn by an Artillery 2nd Lieutenant of the 82nd "All American" Division. It displays well on a mannequin and will look great in any war room!
