Flight Deck Crewman's Helmet with Aural Protection

This is a flight deck crewman's helmet used by the US Army, Air Force and Navy on aircraft carriers and air fields. It is made up of a twill main body head cover with two impact resistant plates that fasten to the main body. The main body can be fitted with an sound aural protector or a headset for external communications. I believe this one was introduced into the system in 2002. It is a size 7 1/2 and is in good condition. The nomenclature label is still securely sewn into the main body. It reads "HELMETS, FLIGHT DECK CREWMAN'S, IMPACT RESISTANT/SIZE 7 1/2/MIL-H-81735B (AS)/SP0100-02-D-4009/DOW COVER CO., INC./DATE OF MANUFACURE/8415-00-071-8787. The helmet is marked in several places with GKN MC 09, not sure what that indicates. The plates are white in color, designating the wearer as either a Safety Observer, Quality Control, Landing Signal Officer, Medical Personnel or Air Transfer Officers. The helmet is held onto the wearers head by means of a velcro chinstrap. This is a good example of a flight deck/air field crewman's helmet that has been in the supply system since 20 July, 1967.
