Vicksburg Daily Herald Newspaper Dated 7 August, 1865
Item #: WR874
This is a copy of the Vicksburg Daily Herald Official Sheet, a newspaper serving the post war Vicksburg, Mississippi area. It is a Monday edition and is dated 7 August, 1865. The complete newspaper is only one page, and is referred to as a sheet. There are numerous articles on the front page that relate to post war political proclamations. One is a convention set to meet on 14 August, 1865 to establish a state government, another announcing amnesty to all who participated in the recent rebellion and another announcing William L. Sharkey as Governor of Mississippi. The paper is in good condition, showing very minimal damage. The page is slightly yellowed, but all text is perfectly legible. There is some insect damage along the right side edge and a small tear. This is a nice example of a post Civil War news publication from the south.
