Vietnam War Period Canteen Carrier with Canteen

This is a US Model 1961 plastic canteen manufactured by ABCO in 1966. This canteen is in issued, very good condition. The cap is still present, retained by the plastic strap it came with. The bottom of the canteen is marked in two lines, U.S. 1966/ ABCO. There is no canteen cup with this set. The cotton duck cover is of the darker OD color introduced in 1943. The carrier is in good condition, but shows extensive wear. Both of the ALICE clips are present and functional. All stitching is strong and shows no fraying. There is one small hole in the back of the carrier just above the bottom seam. Ink stamped on the back of the carrier is COVER, WATER CANTEEN, M 1956/DSA-100-69-C-????/FSN 646???/LAKE STATE ????. This pair saw service during the Vietnam war. Of all the gear a GI carries, this is the one thing he can't go without. This will make a great beginning for the young collector, or a tried and true look for the reenactor in the family.
