WWI Military Police Baton
Item #: WR898

This is a US Military Police baton from the World War I period. This baton, also known as a night stick, Billy club or truncheon, measures 22" in length and 1 1/8" in diameter. I'm not sure of the type of wood it is made of, but I believe it is Maple. It has been stained a dark color, very closely resembling mahogany. It has the same dimensions of the US M1944 baton, but the ring count is off. The ones used during WWII had 12 rings, this one only has six rings in the handle. The WWII ones were also stamped US at one, if not both ends of the baton. This one is not US marked, leading me to believe it is pre WWII. It comes with a leather wrist strap that is still very flexible, and could be a post war replacement. I have not been able to find any information for the specs of a WWI baton, but I've found plenty of pictures of MP's carrying batons very similar and exactly like this one. This WWI Military Police baton displays great and will make a great addition to any WWI US Military Police collection.
