This is an Ordnance Form No. 7 for ordnance and ordnance stores for the Union Army used during the Civil War. This form was used to record issues or transfers of Ordnance stores. The front of the form records Lieutenant JC Borcherdt, commander of B Company, 49th NY Vols was issued stores on 31 July, 1864, while at a camp in the field. The reverse side of the form lists each item he was issued and how many. The inventory lists 3 Springfield Rifle Muskets, 3 Gun Slings, 4 Waist Belts, 4 Waist Belt Plates, 4 Cartridge Boxes, 4 Cap Pouches, 4 Bayonet Scabbards, 3 Bayonets, 4 Screwdrivers, 4 Wipers, 4 Spare Cones and 3 Tompions. The 49th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment was organized in Buffalo, New York on 18 September, 1861 and mustered out of service on 27 June, 1865. The regiment lost 320 men during the war, with 15 officers and 126 men killed or mortally wounded and 5 officers and 174 men dying of disease. This hard fought unit was involved in practically every engagement of the Eastern Theater, with 32 engagements to their credit. This form was in very good condition and the writing is very legible. It will compliment any document collection.
