WWI US Model 1918 Tunic 2nd Division

This is a US Model 1918 style winter tunic worn by the US Army during World War I. This 1918 tunic is a high quality piece made of wool by the HENRY SONNEBORNE & CO. of Baltimore, Maryland. It features the four pocket design with epaulets. The five button coat has the subdued US eagle buttons, with six smaller buttons of the same type for the pockets and epaulets. The coat size buttons are all back marked "R. LIEBMANN MFG. CO. NEWARK N.J.". The smaller buttons are all back marked "R.L. MFG. CO. NEWARK N.J.". The coat is fully lined and has one inner pocket on the left side. Sewn on the back side of the lining on the bottom right side is the Quartermaster's label. The left sleeve has a bullion theater made 3rd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment patch sewn on. A red discharge stripe is sewn on below the 3/17th FA patch. Above the left sleeve trim are two gold chevrons of bullion, indicating twelve months of overseas service. The right sleeve has the chevrons on a Sergeant sewn on it. The left collar disc is the crossed cannons of the Artillery. The right disc is US marked with the regimental 17 below it. There are only a couple of moth holes in the uniform. This is a very fine Model 1918 winter tunic from one of the most famous divisions in the US Army, the 2nd Infantry Division, Second to None!
