This is a non excavated Pattern 1834 Artillery hat badge used by the US Army from 1834 to 1851. This insignia was worn by US Artillerymen during the Mexican American war and right on into the early days of the Civil War by veterans. This insignia was stamped out of sheet brass and measures 2 1/4" wide and 1 1/2" high. The brass has a nice medium chocolate patina. It utilizes two short wires to attach to the hat. This one looks to be in unissued condition. It displays great on it's own, and would look great on some headgear.
