This is an Imperial Japanese Army officer's Model 1912 back pack from World War II. The matte finish brown saddle leather pack measures 10 1/2" high, 8 1/2" wide and expands out to 3" thick. The interior compartment is divided into two sections, a cloth section on the inside of the outer flap that is secured closed by two cloth ties instead of the buckles and straps found on the Model 1901. The interior section of the pack has two leather flaps that are cloth lined and open outward. They are secured closed by four cloth ties. The tie on the bottom left is broken. The outer flap of the main compartment is secured closed by a leather strap and roller buckle. The pack is supported by two leather carrying straps that are adjustable by means of a roller buckle. The stitching is strong and unbroken for the most part, but there are a couple of small areas that have been repaired. The leather straps on the pack are still strong but a little stiff, as is the remainder of the leather. All of the straps and buckles are still present on the pack. The Imperial Japanese Army star is stitched onto the bottom of the outer flap. This is a good example of a pre WWII designed Japanese officer's back pack from WWII, and would add nicely to your Pacific theater collection.
