This is a copy of a Model 1854 Adams five shot cap and ball revolver. Next to Colt's patent revolvers, the design of Robert Adams was the next most widely copied revolver during the Civil War era. There is no serial number stamped on this five shot revolver. The only numbers stamped anywhere are the number 8, found on the cylinder and the arbor pin. The 4 3/4" barrel has very strong rifling and a bright clean bore. The only stamp on the gun is found on the top of the barrel, marked IMPERIAL PATENT REVOLVER. There are no sub inspectors stamps found anywhere on the gun. The gun has some incredible eye appeal, retaining about 80% of the original finish. The mechanics of this double action revolver work perfectly. Simple scroll engraving is found on the frame, trigger guard, back strap and barrel. The loading lever is a copy of the Kerr design, and functions normally. The one piece checkered walnut grip remains in very good condition, showing no cracks, chips or repairs. This is a beautiful gun that could have been imported during the American Civil War. Regardless of which side it resided with, this one will make a great addition to your Civil War weapons collection.
