This is an Imperial Japanese Navy type 97 Mask with filter and canvas carrier that was used during World War II. The mask is dry rotted, very stiff and not able to be put on a mannequin. The lenses of the mask are are in very good condition, with no scratches or breaks. The mask uses one hose to connect to the filter, which can be left in the carrier or worn independent of the carrier. The hose, like the mask face piece, is dry rotted and stiff. The filter is medium gray in color. The six point adjustable head harness is in good condition. The canvas carrier for the mask is in good condition, but does show a couple of repairs for holes. All stenciling is perfectly legible, unfortunately I can't read Japanese. All stitching on the carrier is strong and unbroken, all ties are present and the carrying strap is present. There is some light staining on the carrier and strap. While the mask may not be able to be displayed on a face piece, this WWII Japanese Naval gas mask in the carrier would still look great on a mannequin, especially a Naval Landing Force one!
