This is a US Model 1910 canteen set that was used during World War I. The canteen is in issued, very good condition. This is one of the early 1910 seamless canteens that was produced by Aluminum Goods Manufacturing Company. The AGM Co. patented a process where the canteens were produced by being spun on a lathe. The cap is the WWI style fluted design and the cork seal is present. A retaining chain is riveted to the top of the cap and attached to a retaining ring at the neck of the canteen. There are no makers stamp or date on the canteen. The canteen cup with this set is also in very good condition. It is lightly stamped on the bottom in three lines, "US/L.F.&C./1918". The cotton duck cover is a faded khaki color. The carrier is in good condition and shows moderate wear and staining. All stitching is strong and shows no fraying. This one has the early eagle snaps instead of the LTD fasteners. There is no visible makers stamp on the carrier. Although the carrier still has the M1910 equipment hook still securely sewn on the rear, a leather sling has been improvised so this carrier can function like the Model 1917 mounted version. Instead of the sewn loops that the leather sling used, this sling has been riveted to the carrier. It makes use of a spring hook just like the 1917 version. The front of the carrier is stenciled 12/I/74. Of all the gear a GI carries, this is the one thing he can't go without. This model canteen saw service in WWI, WWII, Korea, and the early part of the Vietnam war. Nice little piece for the beginning collector.
