This is a souvenir badge from the 1935 United Confederate Veterans reunion held in Amarillo, Texas. Amarillo was the site of the 45th National UCV reunion that was held 3 -6 September, 1935. Amarillo was selected as the city to host the 45th UCV National Reunion for a very simple reason, it was practically the only city willing to sponsor the event. This extremely rare reunion badge has survived the past 88 years in fair condition. It is a three piece badge, with a header, a drop and a ribbon. The header is uniquely shaped and shows a half oval of an artillery piece with the words AMARILLO 1935 in an arc above a furled Confederate battle flag on a staff. Suspended below the header is a small rectangular block that reads FORREST CAVALRY. Suspended below the FORREST CAVALRY piece is the drop, an image of Stonewall Jackson mounted on horseback. Above the image of Stonewall are the letters UCV, with a musket and saber intertwined in the letters. In an arc to the left and right of Jackson's head are the words STONEWALL JACKSON. Below the image of General Jackson is a pedestal that has a full color Confederate battle flag, the General and Little Sorrel are standing on it. The small flag retains 100% of the enamel paint. Finally, stamped below the flag are the words 45th ANNUAL REUNION. The original red and white ribbon is still with the badge, but it is no longer attached. The are a couple of spots on the back of the ribbon that have separated, but are not visible from the front. The badge measures 2" at the widest point and approximately 3 1/4" tall. It is back marked GREENDUCK CO. in an arc over CHICAGO on the header and on the drop. These badges would have been worn on the uniforms of Confederate veterans, and even though the ribbon is detached, this very rare Forrest Cavalry badge has powerful eye appeal!
