WWII German Luftwaffe Officer's Sword

This is a World War II German Luftwaffe officer's saber manufactured by Solinger Metallwarenfabrik Stoecker & Company of Solingen, Germany. The sword measures 35 1/4" overall, with a blade length of 28". The blade is straight with a narrow fuller in the center that measures 10 1/2". It is a plain double edged plated blade. The blade is in very good condition and has a few very small nicks along the edge that are felt more than seen. The original plating is still present, with only a couple of small spots of oxidation present. The reverse ricasso is stamped with the makers mark of seated king wearing a crown with drawn sword over the letters SMF and SOLINGEN below the letters. An inspectors stamp is above the makers mark. The obverse ricasso is not stamped. The blade has not been sharpened. The hilt has aluminum fittings and shows minimal wear. The grip is wood covered in black leather and shows minimal wear from handling. The double twisted aluminum wire is tight to the grip. The aluminum pommel and cross guard show light wear from use. The feathered cross guard has some very nice detail work. The pommel has some very intricate hand engraved oak leaf work along the edges. The gold gilt on the swastikas is all but gone on the pommel and cross guard. A black leather throat washer is still present on the cross guard. The black leather scabbard is in excellent condition. The aluminum top mount and drag are held securely by screws. The top mount and drag both show light scratching and scuffs from wear. Overall this is a nice example of a WWII German Luftwaffe officer's saber that will compliment any WWII German Luftwaffe collection.
