This is a World War II Japanese Army officer's saber made by an unknown manufacturer. The sword measures 34" overall, with a blade length of 28 3/4". The blade is straight with a narrow fuller at the top of the blade that measures 26 3/4". It is a plain single edged plated blade. The blade is in good condition and has a few very small nicks along the edge that are felt more than seen. The original plating is still present, but for some reason has been painted silver. The paint comes off very easily and could be removed to reveal the original finish of the blade. There are no stamps on either ricasso. The blade has not been sharpened. The hilt is made up of a brass guard, knuckle bow and backstrap with integral pommel cap with a wooden grip. The grip is covered in black horn and shows minimal wear from handling. The triple strand brass wire is tight to the grip. The brass has taken on beautiful light chocolate patina. A ten petal cherry blossom is used in the decoration of the guard, backstrap langets and pommel. A brown leather throat washer is still present on the blade. Overall this is a nice example of a WWII Japanese company grade officer's saber that will compliment any WWII collection.
