This is a Japanese Hachimaki (Head Band) for the World War II period. These headbands were usually made of red or white cloth and typically had a a rising sun in the center. Often there would be kanji surrounding the national emblem. Worn as a symbol of courage, these are usually associated with Kamikaze pilots. You did not have to be a Kamikaze pilot to wear one of these, soldiers, sailors and ordinary civilians were photographed wearing them. This headband measures 34 1/2" in length and 1 1/2" wide. It is made of lightweight cotton and does not appear to ever have been worn. A 1" red circle is in the center of the headband, and has no kanji surrounding it. This one displays great, and will go well in any Pacific theater collection, American or Japanese.
