NSDAP Political Leaders Gorget

This is an NSDAP Political Leaders gorget from the World War II period. The NSDAP Political Leaders gorget was introduced by the Nazi Party in April of 1939. It was to be worn by all flag bearers officially entrusted with carrying NSDAP units standards, each of which had been consecrated by touching the "Blood Flag" stained by those killed in the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch. This one shows minimal wear and still retains the majority of the gold bronze finish. The gorget is made from a light weight metal, measuring approximately 9" wide and 4 1/2" high. It has a very detailed oak leaf border around a large national eagle that is facing to the right. The reverse retains both hooks used to attach the chain that was worn around the standard bearer's neck. They are stamped with RZM code M1/14, which represents the company of Matthew Oeschsler & Sohn of Ansbach, Germany. The green felt backing shows no insect damage at all, but is pulled back from the top edge of the gorget near the center. This can be easily repaired, but that will be left up to the new owner. This gorget retains it's original chain that measures approximately 24" in length. The chain features alternating wreathed swastika and national eagle emblem ornamentation on the 29 links. The chain is stamped with the same RZM code as the gorget, M1/14. The chain and gorget have a matching patina, and have obviously been together forever. This is a great example of a rare piece of NSDAP history that won't need to be upgraded.
