This is an early 1900's Civil War art print by Louis Harlan. The print depicts a column of soldiers marching away from a distant town. Behind the column a church spire is silhouetted against the sky line. The front of the column has the only detail to it, showing the individual soldier with all his equipment. A young girl and her mother stand at s rail fence and wave to the soldiers as they pass by. An officer leads the column, and he waves at the well wishers with his left hand while he holds his saber in his right hand. A drummer can be seen behind the officer, along with the American flag and the regimental flag. The print is hand signed in pencil Louis Harlan at the lower left corner under the print. In the lower right corner of the mat a are two soldiers cooking over an open fire. To their right rear in the distance is a tent camp with soldiers walking about and another one cooking. It is a winter scene, as all the soldiers are wearing greatcoats. The print remains in very good condition for it's age. The mat measures 16" wide and 19" high, with the print measuring 7 1/4" wide and 10 1/4" high. Simple but well executed, this print will compliment any collection.
