This is an issue of Forney's War Press, a newspaper that was established by John W. Forney prior to the outbreak of the Civil War and called simply The Press. When the Civil War began Forney renamed the paper Forney's War Press, and it remained that until the end of the war, when it reverted to it's original name of The Press. As the name of the paper suggests, this publication carried nothing but news of the war. Issues were published weekly in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and contained engravings, news from war correspondents, casualty reports poetry and humor. Each issue of the paper was comprised of eight pages. This edition is marked as No. 6, Volume I and dated December 21, 1861. The complete newspaper is 8 pages, including advertisements. There are articles on the war, both in the eastern and western theaters. The paper is in very good condition, but has ragged edges all through the paper. The pages are slightly yellowed, but all text is perfectly legible. This would go great with your civil War document or newspaper collection.
