This is a complete gas mask used by the US military during World War I. The set consists of the carrier, mask, hose, filter, dimming stick and instruction card. The carrier is in very good condition, complete with shoulder strap and tie string for the waist. There are no rips, tears, holes or stains anywhere. Hand written on the back side of the carrier is R. McReynolds, with the n spelled backwards. The LTD snaps still have all the black, looks like it was hardly used. Unfortunately, the mask is dry rotted. When I opened the bag the mask looked like it was in pristine condition. When I tried to remove it from the carrier it literally disintegrated before my eyes! Needless to say, I was a little heartbroken. The mask is now a tow piece, with the facepiece and lenses still connected to the hose, and the elastic pad with adjusting straps. Everything in between turned to dust. The hose is dry, but still slightly flexible. The filter is in good condition, no rust or dents. It is painted green and the markings on the filter body are very legible. The dimming stick container is in great shape. It still retains all the paint and instructions on the outside. I don't think I looked to see of anything was still inside. The instruction card is complete and legible. While the mask is no longer usable for anything, this US used WWI gas mask still displays well, and will look perfect on a mannequin.
