Item #: WR1116

This is an artillery limber pole pad from the Civil War period. These were used to cover the end of the limber pole to protect the lead horses. This process is described in the 1863 Ordnance manual on page 148. The leather pad measures 4 1/2" high and 4" in diameter. The leather remains in very good condition. The stitching is tight and unbroken. The original retaining pin that attached the pad to the end of the limber pole is missing, and has been replaced by a permanent pin with heads on each side. This will make a very nice addition to the civil war artillery collector in the family.
