Identified WWI US Model 1918 Tunic 3rd Infantry Division with Overseas Cap

This is a US Model 1918 style winter "rough cut" tunic worn by the US Army during World War I. It features the four pocket design with epaulets. The five button coat has the subdued US eagle buttons, with six smaller buttons of the same type for the pockets and epaulets. The coat size buttons are all back marked "SCOVILL MF'G CO WATERBURY". The smaller buttons are all back marked "R.L. MFG Co NEWARK N.J.". The coat is not lined and has no inner pockets. Written in cursive in ink on the inside of the collar is George F Sorenson. The left sleeve has a theater made 3rd Division patch sewn on. A red discharge stripe is sewn on below the 3rd Division patch. Above the left sleeve trim are two gold chevrons of bullion, indicating one year of overseas service. The right sleeve has rank insignia of an Infantry Private First Class sewn on it. The left collar disc is the crossed rifles of the Infantry, with the letter B below the rifles. The right disc is the standard US with the number 3 below the letters. There are no medals, ribbons or qualification badges pinned above the left breast pocket. There are no holes, tears , rips or stains anywhere on the tunic. There is evidence of a quartermasters tag sewn on the inside of the collar, but only the stitching a a few bits of the tag remain. The overseas cap is also in very good condition. There is a makers label sewn in the sweatband, but it is not legible. A US collar disc is pinned to the left side. George Frederick Sorenson was born on 14 June, 1895 in Chicago, Illinois. He joined the Army on 14 June, 1918 and was initially assigned to Company M, 121st Infantry Regiment, 31st Infantry Division. Once he arrived in France, Sorenson was sent as a replacement to Company B, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. The 7th Infantry Regiment played a key role in the 3rd Division's battles at Aisne, Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, the Meuse Argonne and Champagne. Private Sorenson was with Company B during the Meuse-Argonne offensive. This is a very nice example of a Model 1918 "rough cut" winter tunic worn by a member of Company B, 7th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division, the Rock of the Marne! It will look great on a mannequin and really enhance your WWI collection!
