This is a German Hitler Youth Markman's badge from World War II. Reichjugendfuhrer Baldur von Schirach established a Hitler Youth firearms school in Obermatzfeld Thuringia in 1936 to promote expertise in firearms handling and further the para military training of the Hitler Youth. Shortly after the school was established the marksman badge was instituted for members who had proven their proficiency with firearms. By 1941 there were different badges for the different levels of firearms proficiency. This slightly convex, two piece die struck zinc badge features concentric target rings with the Hitler Youth diamond superimposed over crossed rifles. The red and white enamel paint on the diamond is flawless, as is the black on the canted swastika. The reverse of the badge features the original pin and catch, along with the RZM stamp and the code of M1/14. This code was used by Matthew Oeschsler & Sohn of Ansbach, Germany. This one will make a nice addition to your Hitlerjugend collection.
