This is a Japanese Hinomaru "Ball of the Sun" Naval pennant from the World War II period. The pennant measures 97" wide and has a tapered height from 27 1/2" at the hoist down to 13" at the fly. It is made of two panels of white cloth with a dyed red disc sewn in the center, representing the sun. The pennant still retains the original rope halyard with single wooden grip. The colors of the flag are still very vibrant, the red disc especially. The white field shows some very slight staining in just a couple of spots. There is one small tear along the edge of the pennant and one small hole in the red disc. This style of Hinomaru pennant is associated with submarine use. This one is in fantastic condition and will compliment any WWII Japanese Naval collection.
