This is a 30th Armored Division patch from the Cold War era. The patch measures 3 3/8" wide and 3 3/8" high. The patch is triangle shaped with the typical armored background of yellow, blue and red with a green border. The yellow represents the Cavalry branch, blue is Infantry and red is artillery, the branches the armored corps was first made up of. In the center of the patch is a tank track, a cannon and a lightning bolt. Sewn above that is the number 30 to represent the 30th Division. The one piece patch is all machine sewn. There is no moth damage on the patch at all. The 30th Armored Division was formed through a reorganization of the 30th Infantry Division in 1954. North and South Carolina National Guard units remained a part of the 30th Infantry Division, while the Tennessee units were used to make up the new 30th Armored Division. The division was nicknamed Volunteers, the official nickname of the state of Tennessee. The 30th Division was never federalized during war time, but did get called up to support law enforcement during times of civil unrest, especially after the assassination of martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. The 30th Armored Division was inactivated in 1973. If you have a patch collection your gonna need one of these to round out the Armored section. This patch was removed from a uniform and remains in good condition.
