This is a US Model 1918 style winter uniform worn by the US Army during World War I. The 1918 contract tunic was made by the Frankel Uniform Co. of New York for the New York Quartermaster depot, the 1917 contract pants were made by the Kalamazoo Pant Co. of Michigan for the Chicago Quartermaster Depot. The tunic features the four pocket design with epaulets. The five button coat has the subdued US eagle buttons, with six smaller buttons of the same type for the pockets and epaulets. The coat size buttons are back marked "AM. BUTTON CO. NEWARK N.J." One of the buttons is detached and is located in the right breast pocket. The smaller buttons are all back marked "AM. BUTTON CO. NEWARK N.J." as well. The button for the right epaulette is missing. The coat is fully lined and has one inner pocket on the left side. The hand written name and unit of C.W. ALDERS/CO. C 13th Inf/No 70 can be found on the right side of the lining below the collar. The left sleeve has an 8th Infantry Division patch sewn on it. A red discharge stripe is sewn on below the "Pathfinder" patch. Above the left sleeve cuff are two gold chevrons of bullion, indicating one year of overseas service. The insignia of an Infantry Private First Class is sewn onto the right sleeve. The left side of the collar has the crossed rifles of the Infantry branch with the letter C below the rifles collar brass, The right collar has the US collar disc. The tunic has no ribbons or other awards displayed on it. There are a couple of small moth nips on the tunic, and several small repairs for holes scattered around on the tunic. The trousers are in very good condition as well, with no insect damage and no staining or other problems. The trousers use laces at the bottom of the pants legs. This is a nice example of a US Model 1918 uniform worn by an Infantry Private First Class of the 8th "Pathfinder" Division. It displays well on a mannequin and will look great in any war room!
