This is a leather front ammunition pouch used by the Japanese during World War II. The ammunition pouch is slanted and has one leather strap to retain the box closed. The ammo pouch uses stitching only in the construction of the belt loops, retaining straps for the closure strap and the hinge for the top of the pouch. The only metal used are two brass finials, one on each side for the closure strap ends. This ammo pouch shows wear from actual use, but is still very flexible. The single closure strap indicates the ammo pouch was intended to be used with the Type 38 Arisaka rifle. It is divided into two compartments that hold three 5 round stripper clips each, for a total of thirty rounds of ammunition each. This front ammunition pouch has no arsenal stamps or kanji on the inside of the flap. It will help complete your Imperial Japanese Army infantry accoutrement set.
