This is a cabinet card image of an unknown Spanish American War soldier circa 1898. The visible image measures 4" wide by 5 1/2" tall. It is housed in a cardboard frame that measures 5" wide by 7 1/4" tall. The corners of the frame are square with the border beveled. The condition of the frame is very good. There is no damage to the image at all. The image shows an unidentified soldier in his late teens, early twenties, in a standing pose with a studio back drop. He is wearing an 1885 undress blouse, white shirt, a campaign hat, trousers and shoes. His jacket is plain, showing no rank of any type. He is clean shaven and has locks of curly hair sticking out from under the brim of his hat. He rests his right hand on a small table beside him, his left hand at his side. The studio's name and location are embossed on the front of the cardboard frame, "WARD PENDER/Tampa, FLA.". I have not been able to find any information on the Fowler studio. I believe this photo was taken when the US Army was in the area before boarding ships bound for Cuba. The image is clear, has a couple of spots but still displays well and will compliment any Spanish American War or image collection.
