This is a pistol cartridge box from the Civil War era. This box is in good, used condition. There is some moderate crazing on the flap of the cartridge box, but no leather loss. This cartridge box measures 5 3/4" wide and 4" high. The outer flap of the box is not stamped with a US. The closure tab is not torn, is securely attached to the box, and fits over the brass finial like a glove. The two belt loops are securely attached to the rear of the box. The makers mark of W. Kinsey & Co. of Newark, N.J. is clearly stamped on the inside of the box. There is a very faint inspectors stamp near the bottom of the box. This is a very nice representative piece for a Civil War pistol cartridge box that will enhance any collection.
