WWII German Kriegsmarine Battle Flag

This is a German Kriegsmarine battle flag from the World War II period. This one is a pretty large size, measuring 101"" wide and 55" high. It is constructed of a single panel of red wool material. Printed on the red background is a large white central circle with a black canted swastika printed in the center. The German Naval Cross in black extends to the edges of the flag, and in the upper left corner of the flag is black iron cross on a white background. This flag is two sided. A 2" white canvas hoist is sewn into the left side, with rope loops at the top and bottom. Unfortunately the bottom loop has been cut off. This flag was personally designed by Adolf Hitler and served as the Army, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine war ensign. The colors of the flag remain very vibrant, with the red field showing no discoloration or fading. There is virtually no staining on the flag on either side. The white field of the Naval Cross shows just two small spots of discoloration. While there is very little staining, there are more holes in the flag you'd want to count. Some a rather large, others relatively small, the pictures show them well. There are several ink stamps on the hoist, the first is a waffen amt over the letter M, then Reichskriegsflg. and finally the size of 1.5 x 2.5. The letter M represents the Navy, Reichkriegsflg. represents the Imperial War Flag and the size is 1.5 x 2.5 meters. There is no makers stamp on the flag. It seems that any German flag was considered a prized souvenir for the allied soldiers, and this one most likely made it's way back to the states in some GI's duffel bag after the war. If you have the wall space, this WWII German Imperial War flag of the Navy still has some amazing display power!
