This is a ceramic coffee cup featuring the art of Mort Kunstler. This cup is wrapped with the print titled "The Last Meeting". The print depicts Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson in a clearing of woods near Chancellorsville, Virginia. Jackson is still mounted on Little Sorrel, and appears to be pointing out something to General Lee. Lee is standing beside the horse, holding the bridle and listening intently to Stonewall. The date was 2 May, 1863, the third day of the Battle of Chancellorsville. Lee had sent Jackson on a flanking maneuver with his entire corps, determined to turn the Union Army's right flank. This proved to be very successful, with Jackson catching the Union 11th Corps unprepared for an assault. The fighting began around 5:30 that evening nd lasted into the night. Jackson sensed not just a great victory at hand, but more importantly an opportunity to push the entire Union army out of Virginia. Unfortunately the darkness of the coming night began to cause problems, units loosing touch with each other, loosing contact with the enemy and causing commanders to halt for the night. Stonewall Jackson was returning from a personal reconnaissance of the front when he and his party were fired upon mistakenly by Confederate units. Jackson was hit by three bullets, his wounds requiring amputation of his left arm. When General Lee was informed of Jackson's situation he is reported to have said, "He has lost his left arm, but I my right". Eight days later, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson would day of complications of pneumonia. This 12 ounce ceramic coffee cup presents well. It is 4" tall and 3 1/2" in diameter. It will make a great companion for when you are looking over your latest edition of the Civil War News!
