This book was written by Alvin C. York, edited by Tom Skeyhill and published in 1928, the narrative is 309 pages and is illustrated with black and white photos, to include four personal photos that Alvin York added to the book. This book was presented to Major General Fox Connor. General Connor had been on the staff of Major General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing during World War I, and I am unclear as to how York and Connor became friends. This publication recounts Alvin York's life and experiences, both before and during World War I in the famous "All American's" own words. They recount his early years in the mountains of Tennessee when he was an avid hunter, farmer and a bit of a hard drinking hell raiser. It tells how his mother helped him become a religious man and active part of the local church, and of how his pastor helped him become a better man. Then there are the days in the Army, first at Camp Gordon and then in France. The book is in Alvin York's own words, from beginning to end. His signature is inside the front cover, and the first photograph he added has his hand written inscription to General Connor. This hard back book is in good condition, it never had a dust jacket.
