This is a set of US Third Corps patches from the World War II period. The patches measure 3" wide and 2 3/4" in height. The patch is in the shape of a caltrop, with the three points alluding to the numeral designation of the unit, with the fourth point depicted in the center triangle on a blue background. The US Third Corps was first organized on 16 May, 1918 in France. It demobilized in 1919 at Camp Sherman, Ohio. The US Third Corps was reactivated on 18 December, 1927 and moved to Camp Hood, Texas in 1940 to train newly formed combat divisions. It operated in the European Theater of Operations, and received campaign streamers for Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and the Central Europe campaigns. The one piece patch is all machine sewn. There is no moth damage on either of the patches. Neither of the patches has ever been on a uniform. If you collect WWII US patches you gotta have one of these.
