WWII US Eighteenth Airborne Corps Patch

This is a US Army Eighteenth Airborne Corps patch from the World War II period. The patch measures 2 1/16" wide and 2 1/16" high. The patch is in the shape of a square, having the design of a dragon in blue on a white background and having a blue border. The dragon's head represents the cunning, endurance and ferocity against the enemy and is symbolic of the strategy and powerful attack of an airborne corps. The blue and white colors designate the corps colors. The US Eighteenth Corps was first constituted on 1 October, 1933 and allocated to the Organized Reserves. It was activated on 14 January, 1942, at Camp Polk, Louisiana as the II Armored Corps. It was redesignated as Eighteenth Corps on 9 October, 1943 at Presidio of Monterey, California. It became the Eighteenth Airborne Corps on 25 August, 1944 at Ogbourne St. George, England and assumed command of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, later adding the 17th Airborne Division. The Eighteenth Airborne Corps fought in the European Theater of Operations, and received campaign streamers for the Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe campaigns. This one piece patch is all machine sewn. There is no moth damage on the patch and it has have never been on a uniform. This one does not come with an airborne tab. If you collect WWII US patches you gotta have one of these.
