The brass pommel cap is also tight to the grip. The inspectors initials of WAJ and JH are visible in the back of the pommel cap. The peen appears to be unmolested. The original iron scabbard is inspector stamped JH on the drag. It is free of dents. The scabbard has taken on a steel gray patina with very minimal pitting. The drag is integral and shows minor wear, as do the mounts and suspension rings. Overall this is a beautiful example of a Cavalry Saber that most likely saw service during the American Civil War. This beauty would compliment any American Civil War collection.
