This is a Model 1910 uniform consisting of the tunic and pants. The summer version of this uniform is a little more difficult to find, as it is made of cotton twill fabric instead of the more common wool fabric. The jacket, or tunic, is unlined and is of a single breast design. There are five subdued bronze general service buttons on the front, along with six smaller general service buttons. The jacket has a standing collar, shoulder epaulettes, plain cuffs and four pockets on the front. Each epaulet has a small general service button, as does each pocket to secure the flap. The collar has two one inch disks, one US and the other the branch insignia of the Infantry. The left sleeve has the patch of the 29th Infantry Division and a red discharge stripe. Pinned above the left breast pocket is a Mexican Service ribbon. The 29th Division was part of the Allied Expeditionary Force that fought in World War I. It arrived in France in June of 1918 and in September of that year took part in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. In 21 days of combat it captured 2148 prisoners, destroyed or captured over 250 machine and artillery pieces. The division suffered 30% casualties during that time period. The jacket and pants are both ink marked with the name of J.P. Haines. There is some research to be done for someone who has a little more time to spend on it than me! The jacket and pants are in very good condition. There is no moth damage or any other damage for that matter. The strings are still present in the pants legs and all buttons are still with both the pants and jacket. Here's an opportunity to own a uniform from what I believe to be a two war veteran, the Mexican Expedition and World War I. You just don't see these uniforms in this good of condition very often.
