United Confederate Veterans Kepi
Item #: WR16

This is a United Confederate Veterans kepi circa 1890 - 1910. The Cadet gray material has great color and shows minimal moth damage, about three spots. This is a large size kepi made in the traditional Civil War design. The stitching is very strong throughout this veterans hat. The black visor is in great condition with hardly any crazing and securely attached to the body of the cap. The leather chin strap is retained by UCV buttons with no back mark. On the front of the kepi is the numeral 6. I don't know if this represents a UCV camp number or a wartime regimental number. Adorning the top is a brass horn like the ones used during the war to signify Infantry. The horn and numeral are both post war. The inside of the kepi is immaculate, with the 1 1/2" leather sweatband being in great condition. The paste board in the crown of the cap is securely attached and shows honest wear but no damage. In gold lettering is the maker Confederate Caps/Chapel Hill/ NC in old English script. There is a white fabric size tagshown on that shows this kepi to be a size 7 1/2. There is also a manufactures tag sewn into the back of the sweatband on the back of the kepi. This beautiful old veterans hat would display great on a UCV mannequin, especially with a frock coat!
