United Confederate Veterans Slouch Hat

This is a United Confederate Veterans slouch hat from the post Civil War era. The UCV and GAR organizations were basically the very first veterans organizations. As the reunions grew in frequency and attendance many of the veterans took to wearing reproduction uniforms, if not their original uniforms from the war. This is an early 1900's slouch hat from a Confederate veteran. The hat is formed in the fashion shown in many Confederate images taken during the war. It had a sweat band at one time, but is no longer with the hat. There is no makers label or markings of any kind in the hat. It came into the shop with no known history. i wish it could talk, I'd love to know why there is an Infantry hat cord on it along with Civil War era Cavalry Insignia and the numeral 4 above the crossed sabers. Most of the southern states had cavalry regiments numbered 4, however a few did not. Possibly this veteran was in a unit used more as Dragoon's than Infantry, or maybe he was in a Mounted Volunteer Infantry unit! One thing is for sure, if you collect UCV items this one will certainly add some pop to your display!
