This is a World War II German Luftwaffe Pilot/Observer cloth badge. The badge was instituted 26 March, 1936 by the Commander in Chief of the Luftwaffe, Hermann Goring. It was worn on the lower part of the left breast pocket of the service tunic, underneath the Iron Cross 1st Class if awarded. This award was to replace the 1933 Aircrew Badge. The badge is almost identical to the Pilot's Badge, the difference being the color of the wreath. The Pilot's badge wreath is silver, the Pilot/Observer badge has a golden wreath. The cloth version uses embroidered bullion for the officer's version and cotton for the Non Commissioned Officer's version.
