WWI Brigadier General John J Bradley AEF Uniform

This is a uniform grouping of Brigadier General John J Bradley. Bradley was born 20 April, 1869 in Illinois. He received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in the class of 1891. Bradley was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant 12 June, 1891. He progressed up the chain, receiving promotions to 1st Lieutenant on 26 April, 1898, Captain on 17 December, 1900, Major on 30 May, 1912, Lieutenant Colonel on 15 May, 1917, Colonel on 5 August, 1917. He was promoted to Brigadier General in the National Army on 26 June, 1918 and held that rank through 31 October, 1919. Brigadier General Bradley commanded the 163rd Infantry Brigade of the 82nd Division, Allied Expeditionary Force during World War I. The 163rd was made up of the 325th Infantry regiment, 326th Infantry Regiment and the 319th Machine Gun Battalion. These units were involved in the Saint-Mihiel attack and the Meuse-Argonne Campaign. After the armistice was signed on 11 November, 1918, the 325th returned to the United States and was deactivated on 18 May, 1919. The 326th remained in France on occupation duty. It returned to the United States in April, 1919 and was deactivated. Bradley was in the Philippine Insurrection and received the Philippine Insurrection Medal with Silver Star for gallantry and the Purple Heart for wounds received during the same action. For his service in WWI, Brigadier General Bradley was awarded the WWI Distinguished Service Medal and the Silver Star with commendation. John Bradley retired as a Colonel in 28 December, 1927. He was promoted after retirement to Brigadier General in 1930. In 1948, at the age of 79, John Bradley died in Detroit, Michigan. This grouping includes his light weight gabardine tunic with pants, Sam Brown belt and a WWI overseas cap. The tunic is in very good condition, with only a small stain on the inner left sleeve. The general officers sleeve braid is frayed on the left cuff. On the collar are a set of US insignia of an officer, along with a set of crossed rifles of an Infantry officer. The epaulets have the star of a Brigadier General. The left sleeve has a bullion 82nd patch sewn on, along with two overseas chevrons. Pinned above the left breast pocket is a WWI Victory Medal with a Citation Star. The pants are in good condition, showing light staining in a couple of spots. The stitching is loose at the bottom of the right leg. The Sam brown belt is in good condition, showing honest wear. The overseas cap has general officers piping and a single star of a Brigadier General. Along with the uniform are several copies of photos of Bradley, one as a West Point cadet, three more are official signal corps photos. This is an incredible grouping of a brigade commander from the 82nd Division during World War I.
