This is a tooled leather holster from the Civil War era. This flap holster is made from 3/16" thick leather. There is no crazing, flaking or any problems with the leather. The tooled floral design on the flap makes me think Texas or Mississippi! A floral border surrounds a flower in full bloom on the flap. The design continues onto the back side of the holster, with a single line following the flap. The single belt loop is attached to the holster by three copper rivets. The single piece leather is stitched to form the body of the holster. There is no plug on the toe but it looks to have had one at some point. The stitching is very strong, no loose or broken stitches here! The flap was held closed by leather strip on the flap passing through another leather loop on the holster. They are both missing now. An outline of a Colt pistol can be clearly seen on the body of the holster. I tried a Model 1860 Army and the holster fit it like a glove. This is an absolutely beautiful holster and will display great with your Colt or Southern Cavalry collection!
