This is a riker case with two Civil War bullets and a reproduction United States 33 star flag. The flag has been weathered and has holes in it to replicate a battle damaged flag. The two bullets, one a .52 caliber Sharps, the other a .58 caliber Minie, were both recovered in middle Tennessee. The parchment style paper has been labeled "The Army of the Cumberland", along with the identification of each bullet. The Army of the Cumberland was one of the principal Union armies operating in the Western theater during the Civil War. It was formed on 24 October, 1862 and fought until the end of the war, when it was disbanded on 1 August, 1865. It was commanded by such notable commanders as William S. Rosecrans, George H. Thomas and Robert Anderson. The Model 1863 Sharps carbine, firing the .52 caliber round, and the US Model 1861 Springfield rifle musket, firing the .58 Minie round, were two of the principal weapons used by the Army of the Cumberland. The case measure 6 1/4" wide and 8 1/4" high. It has been provisioned on the back to hang from two nails or screws. This will make an inexpensive birthday or Christmas present for the Civil War collector in the family.
