Civil War Riker Case Confederate 1st National Flag

This is a riker case with three Civil War bullets, a fired percussion cap, a coin button and a reproduction Confederate 1st National flag. The flag has been weathered and has holes in it to replicate a battle damaged flag. The three bullets, one a .31 caliber pistol ball, one a .577 Enfield and the other a .69 caliber ball, were all recovered in Middle Tennessee. The fired percussion cap was recovered in North Georgia and the coin button was recovered in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The parchment style paper has been labeled "The Army of Tennessee, C.S.A.", along with the identification of each relic. The Army of Tennessee was the principal Confederate army operating between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River during the Civil War. It was formed on 20 November, 1862 and fought until the end of the war, when it was surrendered on 26 April, 1865. It was commanded by such notable commanders as Braxton Bragg, Joseph E. Johnston, John Bell Hood and Alexander Stewart. The Model 1842 musket, firing the .69 caliber round ball, and the Pattern 1853 British Enfield, firing the .577 Minie round, were two of the principal long arms used by the Army of Tennessee. The .31 caliber pistol bullet was common among revolvers of the period, and could have been made by any number of manufacturers of the period. The case measure 12 1/4" wide and 8 1/4" high. It has been provisioned on the back to hang from two nails or screws. This will make an inexpensive birthday or Christmas present for the Civil War collector in the family.
